So the BBC have just realised we are living in tough economic times, hey welcome to the real world guys NOT. I bet none of them have faced the problem of wondering if there is going to be food on the table at the end of the month.
I propose this.
1 Scrap the licence fee
2 make the whole of the BBC PPV/subscription instead. The technology to do this is available off the shelf and almost all modern TV’s and a lot of set top boxes have card slots. I am sure I Player could be sorted by some sort of Log On method
3 Make the BBC run more like a real business rather than a giant leach that feeds of a giant cash cow that most of us are obliged to pay because we own TV’s
Quite how this is a good deal for the consumer/F1 fan eludes me. I would bet there are quite a few of you who could not justify approx £500 extra per year.
What’s going to happen the first time it rains at a race? Personally I enjoyed the entire 5 hours of the Canadian GP, didn’t miss one single rain drop and the presentation team did a fantastic job. OK BBC were forced to go to BBC2 but Sky? With their other commitments are viewers going to have to Sky Sports 1 to Sky Sports 2 to Sky Sports 3 etc.
These people are just so out of touch with the real world.

Having had the standard copy and paste answer from the BBC to my first official complaint, I sent it back to them stating it was not an acceptable answer and asking them to clarify how costing me an extra £500 pa just to watch something that should have been FTA until the end of 2013 if they had honoured their contract. This is the reply Dear Mr Varnam Thank you for contacting us regarding the recent F1 announcement. We believe that we have explained the reasoning behind the new rights agreement and therefore we have nothing more we can usefully add. We are unable to divulge any further details on the agreement due to the commercially confidential nature of the negotiations and the contract. However, Ben Gallop has posted a blog to explain in more detail about the new deal: www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/sporteditors/2011/07/f1_coverage_to_be_shared_betwe.htmlWe are sorry we are not able to send you a more personalised reply due to the high volumes of complaints we have received. We have endeavoured to provide as much as information as possible by publishing both the blog and inviting further debate and reaction on The Sports Editors' website. We will release more information on the broadcasting arrangements for next season in due course. If you wish to pursue this complaint, you can contact Neil Land within 20 working days, and he will carry out an independent investigation. You can write to Neil Land at this address: Neil Land Chief Adviser and Business Manager BBC Sport Quay House, 3rd Floor Salford Quays Salford M50 2EQ Thanks again for taking the time to contact us with your concerns. www.bbc.co.uk/complaints

I couldnt disagree with you more. You talk about turning the BBC into a subscription channel at £500 per annum and then talk about how people cant pay to watch F1 on Sky. That makes no sense at all. If you make the BBC 'commercial' it will have to chase ratings to keep advertisers. In other words it will be as big of a pile of crap as ITV - all soaps and reality TV shows. Leave the BBC alone and fund it properly so that F1 stays where it should be - on the Beeb and not flogged off to Murdoch and his cronies to ruin

I don't have a TV. I don't pay for a TV licence. I watch the F1 practice sessions, qualifying and race on the BBC iPlayer, usually within an hour of them ending.
Next year, I will watch whatever is available on the iPlayer.
If that means I spend less time on my arse and actually get out into the real world, so be it.

It's time we all got busy to spread the word on this petition, it needs all the help it can get.

The best thing about today's GP?
Alonso's start? No. Vettel's pass on the outside? No. Schumacher's battle with Hamilton? No. Button's pass on Schumacher? No.
The best thing was the huge crowd behind Humphries and Jordan shouting "DON'T WATCH SKY! DON'T WATCH SKY!"

I am absolutely disgusted that F1 is going to sky, i feel cheated in the fact there is alot of people out there who can not afford to pay for the sky channels, again they taking away the rights of the general public.

I totally agree with you Simon, but as caviat i wouldn't pay one penny to any organisation that Murdoch has an interest in. I shall leave it for those more eloquent than myself to vent their spleen about how morally corrupt Murdochs business is. I really enjoyed the coverage of what was some great racing last year, so this year if i cant have it all i dont want any of it. I shall follow the touring cars and moto gp, Bernie can go swing

Well the DG Mark Thompson is going, not a popular person so I gather Now all we want is Ben Gallop's head on a stick so we can set fire to it and dance around it like cavemen. You know, make a night of it! Simon

Leave the BBC alone and fund it properly so that F1 stays where it should be - on the Beeb and not flogged off to Murdoch and his cronies to ruin I didn't mention a figure. You call making us pay a TV licence if we own a TV or any device capable of OTA TV broadcasts being funded properly. I call it Tax We could do without a lot of the BBC output as some of it is just total dross. My Mom freelances to the BBC and even she says they are broke. F1 is not my only gripe with the BBC. They resurected the excelent 70s Terry Nation series Survivors only to drop it at the end of season 2 with no conclusion unlike the original series which did tie up all the loose ends. If they drop Dr Who then they can expect a personal visit from me to express my disgust (my mom is involved with this series) Torchwood, which also started out as fantastic show has become a vehicle (and I am not homophobic) for John Barrowman to portray on screen gay sex. My mom says he is a real primadonna. Being Human, another superb production that has had me hooked from the pilot episode. Does it have a future or are we going to be left in limbo because the BBC think it's expensive. For god's sake BBC concentrate on quality like the shows I have mentioned plus Horizon, most of BBC 4's output and anything with Dr Brian Cox in it. Leave reality TV like taking talentless kids who want to be pop stars to ITV and Channel 4 will pick up all of societies problem kids who have no aim in life other than where their next hit is coming from. What a difference a few weeks can make! The first of the seasons 'real' & 'Live' BBC coverage of F1 was brilliant and it's not even race day yet. I have just watched all of the practice sessions and the qualyfying from the Chinese meeting and it brought back memories of the good old days (all be it just last year) of the type of coverage that the trio of Jake, David & Eddie can bring to the sport. I've missed all that 'friendly' banter they have between themselves and con't believe that Sky have yet again come along (yet again) and spoiled the party so to speak. There's absolutely no way I'm going to take out any subscription to the well publised chanel just so I can watch my favourite sport. I suppose the old cliche of 'money talks' has a great deal to do with the change but I personally will be looking forward to the 'live' events and not the 'highlighted' ones after the fact! If there's anything BBC can do to rectify this atrocity (only from a sporting perspective & not from a 'worldly' one) then please, please do whatever is possible & within your powers to bring back 'full & Live' coverage of all the sessions races. I'm sure I'm not alone in this request? Can't wait for tomorrows' race if the qualyfying is anything to go by, good luck to Nico, it's going to be a good season 'me thinks'. E n j o y.

Monaco GP
Quote - Ben Gallops words as follows:-
"The headline is that under a seven-year deal starting next season, we will be showing 10 of the races in the F1 calendar, plus the corresponding qualifying and practice sessions, live on BBC TV."
So my question - Where on the BBC is practice? or have they done U turn on this as well?
