My complaint to the BBC today. "This is an absolute bombshell to all formula one fans in the UK. That the BBC operates in a tough financial climate is understandable, that we need to seek savings is also apparent. To abandon millions of viewers by destroying coverage of F1 is totally absurd. Negotiations should have been public, F1 depends upon viewing figures for revenue through sponsorship. BBC can offer this in spades. Sky failed on its first attempt to air F1 simply because it didn't capture the free to air audience. Now it has destroyed free to air coverage. There should have been public debate, this is an apalling betrayal of your audience. The response you offer is patronising and infuriating, and fails to address the main issues. You should have gone public, and refused to compromise. Fans would rather you withdrew altogether and left Ecclestone to explain why F1 defaulted on the promise to maintain free to air access to F1. Now, please save more money and cut coverage completely before we waste taxpayers money on this ridiculous on-off part coverage."

The BBC have said that this is a cost cutting exercise but I've not heard how much they will be saving. Not that I agree with what they are doing anyway but, it would be interesting to know what they've sold us F1 fans out for. Notice in their response it says 'some' F1 fans are not happy with this decision - is that their way of saying the remainder are happy because we know that's not the case!

I am a pensioner and ardent fan of F1 even watching all the practices. On the rare occasion when this is not possible I record the event. There is no way I can afford to pay for Sky sports each month. If I have recorded the programme I never watch or listen to any news programmes because I do not want to know the results beforehand. We have the best possible people commentating on the race who are knowledgeable and passionate about the sport. What is happening to Britain – we seem to be losing out once again on something we took pride in and being sold out.

Bernie Ecclestone has sold out the true F1 fans with his pay-per-view deal with sky. What has he bought his daughters now that he sells us out to the Murdoch’s. I for one won’t be lining his or Murdoch’s pockets to watch F1, without the fans there is no F1. Also what twit do you think sky will have commentating probably that idiot Adrian Chiles...
Ecclestone never answer anyone who criticises the way HE want's to run HIS F1... You watch him if the Humphrey's and co try, he'll just slither and slime and ignore them...

im totally annoyed with this move to share races with sky sports at a time when money for everyone is very tight u expect a true f1 fan to pay yet more cash to watch f1 when bernie said f1 wood remain free to air channels.
i have watched f1 for almost 30yrs and this move to sky has annoyed the hell out of me i pay a tv licence and now to continue watching a sport i love i will ave to pay sky as well to watch.
i guess f1 will b loosing a life long fan as i wont b watching those races on sky,
i hope if enuff f1 fans boycott those races on sky bernie will change his mind and return f1 to its true home on bbc 1

i'm fuming with this move to share races with sky sports at a time when money for everyone is very tight. i've been watching f1 for 25+years on free to air channels. and have never missed a race.
all this just to save the bbc enough cash so they can keep wimbledon. f1 will b losing a longtime fan as i wont b watching any races at all in 2012 in protest.
i can only hope that if enough f1 fans boycott bernie will change his mind and return f1 to its true home on bbc 1

Posted following on BBC complaints board; The decision to drop many of the future F1 races in favour of Sky is disgraceful. This is like rewarding News international for the phone hacking scandal. Don’t try telling me that this deal represents good value for money for licence fee payers. I can attend a soccer match, a cricket match or a race meeting as and when I like, so putting those sports on Sky is not popular but grudgingly acceptable. F1 fans can only attend the annual race at Silverstone, and that is expensive for most fans. The loss of F1 races on free to air TV is a devastating blow to fans of one of the world’s biggest sports. If the BBC needs to save money then drop BBC3 and 4. There is rarely anything on that is worth watching and if it is any good it gets repeated on BBC1 or 2 within weeks. How much did you spend developing 3D TV? Few people want it, and they can waste their money with Sky. Half the country cannot even get HD from the BBC yet!!! It’s time the BBC started using the licence payer’s money wisely. License payers are shareholders. In a real public company the senior management of the BBC would be declared incompetent for many of the decisions made in the last few years.

Total disgrace, Some people, mostly from sky & the BBC seem to think nothing should be free and should be paid for , well excuse me what have I been paying a license fee for in the last 40 years ? I am a sky subscriber , but do not subscribe to sky sports , so am I going to pay an extra subscription to watch two races a month , I think not. of course the wonderful news is that you can still hear all the F1 races live on radio five live, ho whoopee do, aren't we so lucky. Clearly F1 has been ditched to make way for the overspend on the Olympic coverage and lets face it F1 cars racing round a track don't exactly fit in with the BBC's green credentials. So thanks a bunch BBC for selling millions of F1 fans down the river.

Still in a state of total disgust, I was wondering if anyone had done the math on this ? sky basic subscription £20.00 per month + £25 .25 for sky sports basic package. Total £543.00 per year.
F1 2012 season 21 races ( proposed ) half supposedly on BBC free to air , so 10.5 races on sky ( have to take into account the .5 or half race )
so £543.00 divide by 10.5 = £51.71 per race. OMG. what a total rip off.
BBC & Bernie hang you head in shame

After following f1 for 22 years i will not be watching it form next year onwards. This money grabbing decision is going to kill the sport for so many fans and personally if I cant watch all the races live and in full length I really don't see the point AT ALL!!!!!!!! Highlights are rubbish and a waste of time and a few scattered races here are no good for any seroius f1 fan. The bbc coverage was always the best closely followed by ITV when they covered it but now to have to pay to have SKY and then for the sports package you having a bloody laugh. With living costs rising all the time you have just cut all the fans who cannot afford and do not want to pay extra for sky off so thank you for that most wonderfull decision and thank you for taking away something that I looked forward to and enjoyed and was the reason I paid my tv license fee!!!!! Please do continue to put on way

OK seriously angry about this , but to get a campaign going we need to be organized and not just rant. Does anyone know the figures.? What was the beeb paying , what will they be paying now...how much is sky paying... This must be the starting point. How do we get the figures. Would guess as Beeb is a publicly owned company we can get hold of these.
I don't think Bernie actually gives a toss about us, he proved that by lying on air that he wants to keep F1 free to air ( Bernie half the races is not the same and a very sneaky way to pretend you kept your word).
Perhaps contacting and pressing F1 sponsers is another way. Anyone who has a Vodaphone contract. Tell them you will be cancelling the contract due to the withdrawal of F1 on the BBC. If enough people do this we will be listened to. If we just rant , we will be ignored.
